About Portfolio
Thank you for taking the time to look through this portfolio. I hope you will find it an informative and interesting way to get to know my background and personal directions better.
I have been enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at NSCC for the past two years. I have enjoyed the program immensely, and have included some of my reflections and lessons learned in this portfolio. I truly feel that this vocation is a calling for me and the thing I've wanted to do all my life. I am glad to be able to communicate that through this medium.
A portfolio is different from a resume in that it is much more in depth, and gives you the opportunity to explore more areas of the author’s work and life experience than can be expressed in just a few short pages. You will find information in here about my personal history, my life experience and background, as well as samples of my work, certifications, and experiences related to nursing.
I have tried to include those things that have strengthened my skills as a future nurse, and show what my capabilities are to this point. Portfolio is a lifelong process of documenting and compiling history, experience, and reflections on the field that I will be working in. It will be built upon as my experiences in nursing and life in general continue.
It is indeed a challenge to sit back and look objectively and fairly at my own abilities and history, and that in itself is a learning experience. I feel strongly that I have an obligation as a nurse and a person to be a lifelong learner, and that is expressed in my quote: "Nobility is not a birthright, it is defined by one's actions."
I need to work each day to be a better person, and a better nurse. As such this portfolio will hopefully always have new things to add to it, as will my life and work experience.
